Surgeon Betty Jacinth has decided it's time to escape her boss and ex boyfriend Thomas and accept an open invitation from her late father's friend Dr. Sturlusson Sr for a 3 month sabbatical in his hospital in Reykjavik, Iceland. Betty needs this time away from Thomas to heal her broken heart, find herself and find out just what she is capable of achieving out of Thomas's shadow. However, she doesn't expect to be met at the airport by Dr. Axel Sturlusson Jr, six foot plus of brooding Viking male who within minutes of meeting Betty sweeps her off her (in his opinion) ridiculous heels! Axel is no stranger to responsibility; since his older brother’s death in a helicopter crash whilst they were working in Iceland's tactical Navy, he has been suffering with survivor's guilt and PTSD, as a result he has had to give up his job in the Navy and now works at his father's hospital as a surgeon and become guardian to his orphaned teenage niece Eira. So Axel doesn't need the added responsibility of babysitting his father's friends daughter, Betty, during her sabbatical in Iceland. But Betty and her ridiculous heels quickly work there way into Axel and Eira's life making Axel begin to feel again and to look to the future, so that when Betty’s past turns up in Iceland to bring her back to New York can Axel overcome his fears to go after Betty and embrace a deserving HEA! This was my first book from Ms. Amy Ruttan and I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style and the subjects covered however, I did feel there were areas where the book was a little rushed, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book and I will be looking forward to her future releases. If you enjoy the Medical genre then Ms. Amy Ruttans latest book NY Doc Under the Northern Lights is the perfect light read for a long cold winter's night, with a cup of hot chocolate or even a glass wine, whilst curled up on the sofa under a cosy blanket, you too can fall in love under the Northern Lights along with Betty and Axel in the picturesque Island Country of Iceland. I received my copy from Netgalley and Mills and Boon via Mills and Boon Insiders, but this does not influence my opinions as all opinions are my own.
