Scandalous Summerfields series 1 _ Bound by Duty __________ 04/15 ~~~( Tess Summerfield and Marc Glenville ) This is the first in the series and it makes a good start in introducing not only the characters but their situations to us. This story is about Tess. Middle out of 3 sisters and one step brother. Their father dies and leaves them with nothing. The relative who is to inherit does not want anything to do with the sisters. They are to leave their only home and seek help from elsewhere. This comes in the form of Lorene the oldest sister, marrying a recluse and old neighbour in the form of Lord Tinmore. Both of her sisters are shocked but she sees it as a sacrifice in order to help her sisters and brother to make love matches and go where they wished in life. Unknown to them Lord Tinmore is not as he seems. Once under his roof they find things are restricted to a degree and their sister changed by marrying him. There is to be a house party. All attend who are friends of Tinmore. He was showing off his new wife. Tess and Genna were less than happy about the situation. Tess decides to walk to the village to buy ribbons and lace to improve their worn out dresses until they are able to get new ones. On the way home the heavens open and Tess becomes lost. Unknown to her there was another lost in the storm too. Marc Glenville was on his way to London. The storm is making it difficult to get anywhere, so he decides to look for shelter. Tess is near to freezing to death when Marc finds her. Taking her on his trusted horse Apollo, they find a small cottage and tried to make the most of things. Marc had his life planned out as he liked it and unfortunately when he is discovered with Tess they would have to marry. Tess does not want to, but Tinmore threatens cutting off her family and gives her no choice but to go ahead. Marc was going to marry a woman who was his best friend’s sister, Miss Caldwell, but now he has no choice either. Marc’s family have been deep in scandal and finding Tess is from the Summerfields and having known their scandal too, he does not hold much joy for the future. However, as time goes on he finds himself liking Tess more and more. Marc’s parents were distant from each other and when Marc brings home Tess she saw the troubles within the family. Add to the mix the Napoleonic wars, Amelie, Marc’s sister, Lord and Lady Glenville, the Caldwells, Marc’s intended and her father and Nancy who is a joyful character, you have a colour collective of people. The story is fast moving but the ending lacked the full finish it needed but it is a good start to what will be a wonderful series.
