You just never know what to expect from Mrs Yates. Certainly the days of the virginal heroine has moved on but to open with Rachel giving her virginity to a man she had only just met while engaged to someone else and then intending to go ahead with the wedding was just too much for me to stomach. There are some lines which I feel should not be crossed. I also don't like females using obscenities and didn't like the crudity of her language at times. She came over as totally mixed up and I couldn't like her character. Alexios was alpha but had great depth to his character and although his original motives were not honourable he was encouraged by Rachel's actions. However, he had a change of personality towards the end of the book which rang hollow. Unfortunately, the whole story was curiously flat. Four point five out of ten

Could have been better

Maisey Yates is one of my favorite authors so expectations were high on this one.Sadly,it failed to deliver. Rachel Holt failed to impress me in the personality section.I did not care for her virginity and the scandalous mistakes she made in her past.A little spunk would have been appreciated. Alexios is the dark brooding hero and had potential but again he also failed to impress. I liked the story line but the characters were just forgettable.
