Chapter Thirty
Lizzie felt her jaw drop. “You don’t even know me.”
Hunter put down the kitten and stepped closer to her. Suddenly the guest bathroom felt very small.
“I know you’re kindhearted because you’re fostering kittens. I know that as much as you play at being a vixen, you can barely walk in heels, and that makes you even sexier. I know you love to read and you've created a special program at the library for shy kids…"
“How do you know that?”
“Your Facebook page.” Hunter held up his now-charged phone. He’d used one of her plugs the night before. “And I love that, because as much as I love your body, I love your brain even more.”
Lizzie froze. Did he say love?
“You can’t love me. We just met.” Lizzie’s brain felt like it was short-circuiting.
“Fine, I won’t say love. I’ll say strong like.” He grinned, showing a white flash of brilliance.
“And…and…I just fell right into bed with you. All the dating books said that means a disaster for dating. There’s no way we can have a long-term relationship. All the statistics say—”
“How about we try to beat the odds?” Hunter pulled Lizzie close. Suddenly that seemed like a very good idea.
“Do you always move this fast, Maverick?”
“Always,” he said, and kissed her.
