Evan didn’t know what he’d expected to happen when he kissed Natasha, but he did know he didn’t want this to end. If either of them was thinking logically, they’d put a stop to this now, he’d go home, and tomorrow they’d pretend it had never happened and go back to normal. However, the moment they’d stopped fighting temptation and accepted the attraction which had been there between them for goodness knew how long, there had been no going back.
As they stepped into her bedroom, he recognised how nervous she was, because he felt the same.
‘You’re beautiful,’ he said, as she stripped away her clothes to reveal her naked body in a display of trust he didn’t take for granted. They’d both been wounded in the past and taking this step was a big deal.
He heard the hitch in her breath as he undressed, boosting his self-confidence. Then they were kissing again, clinging to one another as they tumbled down on to the bed. The rest of the world, and whatever problems awaited them, ceased to exist beyond their passion.
For tonight, at least, they were simply two lovers expressing their feelings for one another physically, because admitting it aloud seemed too frightening a prospect for now. Natasha had become increasingly important in Evan’s life, and he was too scared of losing her to tell her he wanted more than one night. He was starting to think about how nice it would be to have her in his life on a more permanent basis. Something he wasn’t sure either of them were ready for just yet.

‘Hi, Chloe. How are you today?’ Evan breezed into the hospital room and Natasha felt her whole body light up at the sight and sound of him again.
When he saw her, a smile spread across his face, before he refocused his attention on the little girl in the bed. That secret look which conveyed images of everything they’d done together last night. Natasha’s skin was burning from the memory of his touch, her body aching to have him again.
He’d gone home this morning to shower and change for work, and they hadn’t had time to talk about what they were going to do next. She was hoping it wasn’t a one-off. That it was the start of a new chapter for them as a couple. However, the nature of their relationship was something they’d have to wait until after work to discuss.
Chloe stroked Eddy, who had taken up residence on her bed. ‘Good.’
Chloe’s father, who was sitting at the side of the bed, cleared his throat, as relieved as Natasha and Evan were that she was finally beginning to open up. Hopefully, with Evan and Eddy’s help she was well on the road to recovery.
‘Natasha? Your mother’s on the phone for you.’ One of the nurses on the ward stuck her head into the room to deliver the unexpected news.
‘Ok. Thanks.’ She glanced at Evan, who suddenly couldn’t seem to meet her eye, then signalled for Eddy to follow her. ‘Dr Cameron needs to talk to you now, Chloe, but I’ll bring Eddy back again tomorrow to see you.’
Natasha made her excuses and left, but her stomach was twisting in knots. She had a feeling something was going on that she wasn’t going to like.
