Natasha didn’t know what had prompted Evan to kiss her. He probably felt sorry for her when she’d been having a pity party for herself. Whatever the reason, she didn’t care. Kissing him was a magical cure-all, erasing all negative thought.
She hadn’t been completely truthful with him about what was on her mind, and why she’d withdrawn from him since the park. Yes, seeing the mother’s and daughter’s love for one another had made her think about her relationship with her mother, but it had also made her think about other relationships in her life. With her ex. With Evan. And whether or not she would ever find the courage to be with someone else again, never mind have a family of her own.
Now with Evan’s lips on hers, she didn’t know what her problem was. She trusted him, knew he wouldn’t hurt her, and damn, he kissed like a romantic lead. Except if he didn’t feel the same way about her, if this was a spur-of-the-moment regret for tomorrow, she’d rather it ended now. Before she got carried away with the idea that they might have moved their relationship beyond friendship.
Though everything in her sex-deprived body was screaming no, Natasha pulled back. It was difficult to form a sentence when she was staring into his desire-filled eyes, but she took a deep breath and tried to clear her mind of all the inappropriate thoughts he was making her have.
‘Evan…are we sure we want to do this?’ She was giving him an out, because if he didn’t call this off now, she didn’t think she was capable of doing it herself.
‘I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.’ Without a second’s hesitation, he cupped her face in his hands and kissed her as though his life depended on it. Completely taking her breath away with the strength of his passion.
Her whole body felt alive, fizzing with excitement and want, as though she’d just been awakened from a lonely slumber. In a way she supposed she had. Until now she hadn’t realised how much she needed this, needed him.
Except if they were going to risk what they had on one night together, she didn’t want to do it here on the sofa.
Ignoring her body’s protest, Natasha broke off the kiss and took Evan’s hand.
‘Let’s go upstairs.’ Her voice was husky with desire, yet her nerves were frayed over what might come next.
Whatever happened, she knew it was going to change things between them forever.
