Licking the ice cream from his fingers had been a spontaneous act, which, in the past, wouldn’t have been a big deal. But for some reason now it felt like something intimate had passed between them. That brief moment of contact had felt like a million little bee-stings all over her skin and she didn’t know how to process this new light she was apparently seeing Evan in. He was her friend, her colleague, her place of safety. Something she’d desperately needed after she was betrayed by her mother and ex. Venturing into new territory with Evan now meant jeopardising that. If there was even any chance he was interested in her in that way.
He’d probably be horrified to find out she was thinking about him in any romantic fashion, and she didn’t want to lose the one person she could count on in her life.
The likelihood was she’d developed feelings for Evan because he listened, because he was loyal—properties that had been lacking in her mother and boyfriend. Maybe someday she’d learn to trust someone else enough to think about getting into another relationship, but keeping Evan in her life was more important than her libido. She needed to focus on training Eddy and helping patients like Chloe.
