Alisha tried to adjust her robe to make sure all her nether regions were covered, but what did it matter after what Tyler had just announced?
“Your plan?” Ty asked. “What are you talking about?”
Adam motioned between them. “You guys have danced around each other for years. When you needed a break and asked to use my beach house, I made a plan to have you both here at the same time.”
Tyler raked a hand over the back of his neck. “You knew all along how I felt about your sister?”
Adam shrugged. “For a while. At first I thought you were just after her because she was off-limits and paid you no attention, but I saw how you looked at her, and then I started noticing how she looked at you. You’re clearly meant to be.”
Alisha held up her hands. “Wait a minute. Nobody said anything about meant to be,” she corrected. “You just got married and still have Cupid dancing around your head. Tyler and I are just…just…”
She had no idea how to finish that sentence. She glanced from Sara, who was still just smiling like she knew something, to Adam, and Tyler. Only Tyler’s dark brows had drawn in, and he looked both confused and hurt.
“This is a fling,” she finally stated. “We would never work long term.”
“And why is that?” Tyler countered, crossing his arms over his bare chest.
Alisha raked her hands through her hair and growled. “I cannot have this conversation with an audience when neither one of us is properly dressed.”
She turned to face Adam and stopped. “Why aren’t you on your honeymoon?”
Sara held up her hand to stop Adam from speaking. “We just postponed until tomorrow. We went to a little rental down the way, but Adam was worried his plan would backfire and he’d need to do damage control.”
“Obviously my plan had quite the opposite effect,” Adam stated with a wide smile.
Alisha pulled in a deep breath. She really didn’t know how to unpack all this, but she did know she needed something appropriate to wear.
“I don’t like you meddling in my affairs,” she told her brother as she started from the room. “But we’ll get to that in a bit. Don’t you dare go anywhere. I have to rehearse how I’m going to scold you when I return.”
Sara laughed and put a hand out to stop Alisha. She met her sister-in-law’s deep blue eyes and saw love there.
“Don’t be too hard on Adam,” Sara murmured. “He loves you both.”
Alisha smiled and nodded. She really didn’t know whom she was mad at. No, mad wasn’t the right word. Confused, irritated, anxious. She had too many emotions she tried to make sense of as she headed up the stairs to her bedroom. As soon as she stepped inside, she closed the door and leaned against it with a sigh. Closing her eyes, she tried to make sense of her brother playing matchmaker, her brother’s friend now being her lover, and that same said friend claiming he wanted more.
Her life had been so calm and tidy just a few days ago, and now everything had turned upside down. Before she could try to sort out all her thoughts, there was a knock on her door.
