Cam
One of the first things you learned as a race car driver was to respect momentum. You didn’t fight it at high speed—you managed it. Right now, Cam had momentum with Lily, and all he could think about was having her naked in his bed. Her soft skin and touchable curves, dark hair splayed across the crisp duvet, and a kiss that made it feel like his entire world had been cracked open, and he was more than good with that.
“Cam, I don’t have a condom,” she said. “So I really hope you do.”
His heart fluttered. She’d called him Cam. “I do.” He was already ducking into the bathroom.
“Who exactly did you think you were going to need that for this weekend?” she called.
He returned and tossed it to her. “I was optimistic you might change your mind.”
She smiled and shook her head, then ripped open the packet. “Get over here.”
Her touch was enough to send him over the cliff, but he closed his eyes and gathered his strength. As he sank down into her and she pulled her knees higher, he studied her face. He loved seeing her relaxed. Enjoying herself. The pink in her cheeks. The flicker of fire in her eyes. “You are so beautiful,” he said, kissing her neck.
She raised her hips, rocking into him, amping up the pressure in his thighs and belly. “You’re not half bad yourself.”
He laughed quietly, then focused on making her happy. It didn’t take long before her breaths were short and fast, and he could tell from the urgency as she moved her hips to meet his that she was close. He was too, but he’d felt that way from the instant she showed up at his door. He kissed her deeply, wanting to tell her that everything would be okay. They could find a way to make this work, even when he’d made that dumb crack about a fling. Even when he knew the chances of things working between them were about the same as the odds of him keeping his race seat.
Lily’s breath became ragged, like she was right on the edge, and then she arched her back and called out. It took him another split second to follow, the waves rolling over him as she locked her ankles behind his ass and pulled him close.
He collapsed, then rolled to his side, wrapping her up in his arms and kissing the top of her head, all while he furiously tried to push aside thoughts of what came next. For now, he’d soak up these blissful moments of quiet.
“I should probably go,” Lily eventually said.
And just like that, he’d arrived back on Planet Lily, where Cam was kept at arm’s length while he watched her kick ass and take names on track, all so she could probably take away his dream. “You don’t want to stay? We could watch bad TV or get room service.”
“Don’t you want to get your sleep? I seem to remember you sleep well after sex.”
“Like a baby,” he said.
She rolled off the bed and picked up her clothes from the floor. “This is better. We both need to be well rested for tomorrow.”
He fought the disappointment that had already made itself at home in the center of his chest.
But then, Lily hesitated to get dressed. “You know…”
He bolted upright and rested on his elbows. “Yes?”
She bugged her eyes at him. “Will you let me finish?”
“Whatever you were going to say, as long as it involves your clothes staying on the floor, I’m good with it.”
She smiled and rested her knee on the bed. “I do remember you are a pretty next-level cuddler.”
