Rafael cupped her face with both hands. ‘As if I didn’t already love you enough, you make my greatest wish come true.’
It was also Willette’s greatest wish, well, one of them. The other one had already come true when he’d declared his love. Her smile grew so big, it felt as if it didn’t fit on her face.
His lips touched hers so tenderly her breath caught and stayed locked in her lungs as his kiss became a game of teasing, touching her bottom lip, then her top one. It was more than she could take. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pressed her chest up against his, and let nothing shy of womanly intuition drive the kiss into a deep locking of their mouths and bodies.
For a moment she worried if anyone could see them, for they were on the terrace of a very full ballroom, but accepted the fact that she didn’t care. She loved him with her heart and soul and would be glad for the world to know that.
Hours later, she would learn that her future sister-in-law had positioned herself at the terrace doorway, making sure no one else stepped foot outside. As it was, Willette was so lost in their first kiss that she might have died of suffocation if Rafael hadn’t broken the contact, told her to breathe, and then kissed her again.
The next time their lips parted, he asked, ‘So how long will you need to think about it?’
A mass of excitement, joy and happiness filled her. ‘Yes, Rafael, I will marry you. But it has nothing to do with me being able to sing for people, and everything to do with how much I love you. Everything about you. From your overly handsome face, your teasing, and the mischievous twinkle in your eyes, to how you rescue animals and people. Because, yes, you did rescue me. And I love you all the more for it. Because of you, I saw what I truly want. To be your wife, bear your children, and raise them in a house full of animals and love.’
Amongst a bout of playful kissing, and laughing, and hugging, he asked, ‘What do you think of the United States? The Wild West?’
Shaking her head, she admitted, ‘I’ve read about it.’
‘Do you want to go there for our honeymoon?’
‘I’ll go anywhere with you, anywhere at all!’ She kissed him, because she could and wanted to, and then told him, ‘If you rescue a baby bison, I’ll help you sneak it home.’
