I should have asked her out to dinner.
That had been the plan when he’d seen that she was still in the office. But he’d chickened out. She’d been sitting there, looking at him with those gorgeous brown eyes, and he couldn’t do it. Why would a woman smart enough to literally build a computer program in a matter of days choose to go out with a man like him, who could barely send an email? She was out of his league.
He stepped out of the front doors of the building just as a scream cut through the night.
His gaze whipped in the direction the scream had come from, his feet already propelling him in the same direction. A woman was doing her best to fight off two men who were trying to pull her toward the open door of a dark paneled van.
Adrenaline coursed through his body as he sped forward.
One man was only slightly taller than Serena, but he had her in bulk by at least fifty pounds. The other man was much taller and leaner. Both men wore dark clothing and moved with determination. Serena fought with everything she had, but she was outmatched and outnumbered.
“Hey!” Tyre yelled, drawing the men’s attention to him.
Serena swung her purse at the smaller man, catching him in the torso. The man doubled over and let go of her arm. She wrenched away, but the other guy recovered quickly. He grabbed Serena by the waist and began dragging her to the van.
Tyre caught up to the trio just as the man got Serena to the van’s door. He grabbed the tall man and pulled him off of Serena before landing a left hook to his jaw. The man stumbled back, holding the side of his face. Tyre hit the man a second time, sending him to his hands and knees on the sidewalk in front of him.
Tyre caught sight of Serena, standing just off to the side, her eyes wide, a shell-shocked expression covering her face.
“Run,” he huffed at her, still fighting to take air into his lungs.
