The next morning, Hudson, propped up on his elbow, stared down at his sleeping beauty. He could look at her all day. Her flawless, smooth, nut-brown skin glimmered under the dim lighting coming from the bedside lamp. Erica was the most beautiful woman he’d ever met.
He gently brushed a few long strands of hair away from her forehead, and his heart pounded a little harder. She was his. He was hers. She’d been terrified that he’d been seriously injured. Though he hated that she worried, he knew it confirmed how much she cared about him.
They’d made love twice in the last few hours, and still, he couldn’t get enough of her. It wasn’t just her shapely body that made his heart pump a little faster. It was everything about her that turned him on. From her intelligent mind to her sweet disposition, she was everything he wanted in a woman, a wife…and a mother to the kids he hoped to one day have with her.
His cell phone vibrated on the bedside table next to him, and he quickly snatched it up to silence it. Glancing at the screen, Hudson gripped the phone tighter, and his teeth clenched enough to crack when he saw who the caller was.
Ally.
She was the last person he wanted to hear from. He let the call go to voice mail. Their last conversation months ago hadn’t sat well with him, and he had hoped it would’ve been the last one. Why was she calling?
I’ll never stop loving you.
Her words bounced inside his mind. He had seen her once since that conversation. It had been when he’d attended a Sunday dinner at his parents’ house, not knowing that his mother had invited her. He’d been surprised. While there, he had shut down Ally every time she had tried to start talking to him. He hadn’t seen or heard from her since. Until now.
There’s no one who will love you the way I do... I know we’ll find our way back to each other. You’ll see.
Her words from months ago still felt menacing, but he shook them from his mind.
Sitting up, Hudson placed his feet on the floor and hoped Ally wasn’t calling to stir up trouble. She probably knew he was dating someone, but why call now after all of this time?
