I’m the bestselling, award-winning author of nine supernatural, paranormal and crime thrillers, including the thriller award-nominated Huntress Moon series. The New York Times has called me 'a daughter of Mary Shelley' and my books 'some of the most original and freshly unnerving work in the genre.'
As a screenwriter I’ve sold original suspense and thriller scripts and written novel adaptations for numerous Hollywood studios. I’m also the workshop leader of the internationally acclaimed Screenwriting Tricks for Authors workshops, based on my Screenwriting Tricks for Authors workbooks and blog.
My background is all California – I’m a native who grew up in both Northern and Southern California as the daughter of scientist and educator parents, which drove me into musical theatre at an early age. At U.C. Berkeley, I majored in theatre and minored in everything that Berkeley has a reputation for. While not doing... everything else... I wrote, directed, and acted in productions from Shakespeare to street theatre; trained in modern and jazz dance; directed and choreographed four full-scale musicals; spent a summer singing backup vocals in a bar at Glacier National Park; and graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
In my free time (!) I enjoy adventure travel and all kinds of dance, which I’ve also taught, and have great fun performing with Heather Graham's all-author Slush Pile Players. I’m very passionate about writers’ creative rights as well – I’ve served on the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America, west (the screenwriters’ union) and on the Board of the Mystery Writers of America. I’m also a member of the Killer Thrillers! indie author collective.
I’m also very active on Facebook and Twitter. But not an addict. No, seriously, it's under control.
