About Fiona

I’m a mostly-amused mother of five sons, married to the man I fell in love with at seventeen, and like a lot of us, I think I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world (NSW Australia). My first book was accepted by Harlequin Mills and Boon in 1999 and I often pinch myself because I can’t believe I’ve found another job I love as much as being a midwife.

Like a lot of girls from the country I moved to Sydney at seventeen and started my training as a nurse, and later a midwife. There I met my wonderful husband, Ian, and we've been married for thirty three years and blessed with our boys, now between nineteen and thirty years old. How on earth did that time fly?

Prudently, when we started to produce boys, we moved from Sydney to northern NSW and now live on two hundred swampy acres, fifteen minutes from the ocean, with kangaroos, wallabies and grass that grows faster than the speed of light.

As for writing – I've always loved reading and it's fed my passion for writing. My first medical romance novel was published by Harlequin Mills & Boon in 2001 I’ve now written over thirty novels for them. I've been nominated for the Romantic Book of The Year with Romance Writers of Australia and the US based Cataromance Readers Choice Award and have sold over 2 million books, in twelve languages.

In my other life, I work part-time as a midwife/midwifery educator, and spent ten years as a facilitator for a teenage mothers group – all of which I love and often include in my writing – because the power and strength in women continues to awe me. Then there's some outreach teaching that I adore that keeps me on my toes and even some well women's clinics with a fab doctor's surgery in town. I also write for Pregnancy and Birth magazine and Penguin Australia.

My world is hectic but so it seems to be for most people and I love it.

Someone once asked about my all-time fantasy. My answer? 'Cruising around the world with my husband and my laptop computer, writing novels between ports. Did I tell you I loved the movie Romancing The Stone?
