Will I ever feel like I’m a REAL writer? It’s not that I don’t love writing romance novels, but at the same time I have a lot of resistance about sitting down and actually writing. Deep down – I always think I can’t do it. Also, there are so many pleasant distractions in my life – my husband, my kids, my grandchildren, my cats, my hobbies – and just the little rituals of everyday life. Then there are all those dark and troubling things I have to worry about. But it is the good and the bad in my life give me the material I write about.
So – for me, writing is both a pleasure and a struggle.
I grew up in south Texas, and I still live there. I attended Del Mar College as a sixteen year old freshman and then went to the University of the Americas in Mexico City to study Spanish, before graduating from the University of Texas in Austin with a BA in English and Spanish. I also have an MA in English and Spanish from Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas. I have taught both on the secondary and college level and enjoy giving workshops at writers’ conferences.
I began writing when my first child was born and sold my first novel six years later. I taught myself how to write without the aid of other writers, writing books or writing courses. It was a very lonely and solitary pursuit. It is incredible to me that I have written nearly seventy novels.
I am proud to say I am a USA Today Best Seller and a founding board member of the Romance Writers of America.
In addition to my career as a novelist, I love to hike, play the piano, sail, bird-watch, kayak, and travel. I currently reside in south Texas with my husband.
Nora Roberts has kindly described my work thusly: 'Engaging characters, stories that thrill and delight, shivering suspense and captivating romance.' Sandra Brown says, 'Her name on the cover instantly identifies the book as a good read.'
I hope you will enjoy my books just as much.
