I love m&b for what they are, If I wanted a classic there are plenty well written out there. Reading the story was like reading Jane Ayre, so why bother, I kept seeing Orson Wells, the story was so close. I enjoy Ms Kendricks books normally but I would, if I was able to, ask for my money back. I would have loved a story young girl/ older man like the old m&bs, blinded, go for it. But in an original story line not borrowed from someone else
Had mixed feelings about this book. Wasn't conscious of the age difference particularly but wasn't terribly impressed with parts of it, and yet strangely enjoyed others!
Modern day classic!
Mrs Kendrick has taken one of the great classics - Jane Eyre - and transformed the plot to a modern-day setting and it works successfully.
Jack is a brooding but fascinating hero and Ashley a rather self-effacing but eminently likeable heroine in an entertaining story.
However, I do have reservations at the age-gap of almost 20 years between them - (they are from different generations) and I have to question Jack's integrity in not revealing to Ashley an important facet of his life which was central to their relationship.
Notwithstanding this I really enjoyed the book.
8.5 out of 10.
The Forbidden Innocent
I loved this modern-day Jane Eyre and thought it was wonderfully written. Despite knowing the classic well, I was soon drawn into Jack and Ashley's story and was able to imagine them on the moors and in the Blackwood Manor.
where do I start?
she is young, he is old enough to know better.
He is married and during the book has a girlfriend. He asks her to keep their relationship a secret!! Need I go on. I am a fan of Sharon kendrick but morally this book made me uncomfortable
