Regency Brides of Convenience: deals made at the altar!

Regency Brides Series ...

Regency Brides of Convenience Series 1 _ Rescued by the Viscount ______ 09/14 ~~~( Jack Delsey and Charlotte ) 2 _ Chosen by the Lieutenant _____ 01/15 ~~~( Peter Phipps and Amanda ) 3 _ Reunited with the Major _______ 03/15 ~~~( Harry and Samantha ) The second in the series. All three men know each other well. Phipps helped Jack when he was in need in Rescued by the Viscount. Harry in his turn has helped Phipps. I am looking forward to reading Harry’s story as the characters have all been wonderful so far. Phipps having served his country in the wars in Spain now lives in London and has found himself in financial problems. He does not want to marry for money as it did not sit too well with him. However he is a favourite of Cynthia and Amanda, Cynthia being a diamond of the season and Amanda her friend. Cynthia enjoys his humour whereas Amanda feels that he is kind and generous towards her. Most of Cynthia’s court tend to ignore Amanda. Phipps is deciding on a course of action when things take a change. Amanda has had a sweet tooth just like her father and has been called a dumpling of a girl during the season. She doesn’t mind this as she knows that she is not the fashion for this season. However Cynthia took to Amanda and they went everywhere together. Amanda also finds Lord Johnston taking a liking to her and she is trying to save his feelings but he was pressing his suit. Amanda found him a little dull. She was not inclined to accept if he offered like several who offer for her because she has come into a large inheritance. Although she claims not to be romantic, Amanda finds there is one man she would like very much overall but thinks he would never offer. Amanda in turn, finds a friend in Jane Field and does the same for her. At a dance, a picnic was arranged by the Marquis of Shearne. He took a liking to Cynthia but Major Harry Brockley (Brock) made sure he got between the Marquis and Cynthia. Several days before the picnic, Cynthia comes down with Chicken pox and has to be removed for her health. Shearne was going to call off the picnic but Phipps told him he would not want to disappoint the others as they were invited so it went ahead. During the picnic Phipps offers to escort Amanda and her family home. Shearne corners Jane taking her for a walk and Brock ends up saving her. In seeing Shearne’s character Amanda is torn about telling Cynthia. Amanda’s mother Lady Hamilton met up with her good friend Susanna, who invited them to stay a few weeks with them. Lord Armstrong her stepson takes a liking to Amanda. Amanda seems to be losing weight and her friend Jane helps with remodelling her dresses. Shearne encounters Amanda and Jane whilst out shopping and is less than pleased with Amanda’s reaction to his behaviour. On their next meeting Amanda told Phipps about the encounter. During Amanda’s dance near the end of the season brought more men asking for her hand. Amanda was blossoming and coming into her own. However, she did not feel it in herself. Phipps makes an offer for Amanda and is accepted. Shearne makes several attempts to harm them and is dealt with. Phipps is called back home when his brother has an accident. With Phipps and Amanda’s help the outcome was different to what was predicted. It is certainly an eventful story and has much happening within it. The characters are fantastic and so is the writing. It is one of those stories where you wish everyone would disappear and you could be left with the book to read in your favourite place. Although mention of Jack and Charlotte is made, we do not really catch up with them. This book also seems to end very quickly but I am sure the next one is going to be just as good. I hope the author will revisit the first two couples and I hope Jane and Phipp’s brother Alex also get a chance at a story too. One of those stories you just don’t want to put down.

Delightful

If you want a good traditional Historical then look no further than Anne Herries. A "typical" Regency, based around a marriage made for status and money this has great characters of the age, a hint of mystery and misunderstandings which keep the reader engrossed. Just what I want from an M&B Historical. Ten out of ten
