Thawed by his housekeeper’s kiss…

Luke Winterley, Viscount Farenze, is duty-bound to fulfil his beloved aunt’s last request – even though it concerns bewitching housekeeper Chloe Wheaton. Years ago they fell in love, but the battle between duty and desire drove them apart.

Now, embittered by a loveless marriage, Luke wonders if the ice around his long-buried emotions can ever thaw.

A marriage between a housekeeper and a viscount should be impossible – but maybe the warmth of Chloe’s touch can bring a new beginning for them both…

Setting the scene

Rating By R,08/08/2014

An interesting premise this is the first of a quartet each set in a different season as the characters try to carry out tasks set out by a deceased woman in her will. Luke and Chloe are personable if slightly hard to really get to terms with characters and the first half of the book meanders along. I am left somewhat puzzled as to why the author left it to half way through this first book before addressing the parameters of the overall theme. As usual Mrs Beacon excels in drawing you in to the setting and authenticity of the period and while it is overall an enjoyable read it is by no means this author's best. I am looking forward to the second of the quartet as Tom, Marquis of Montaigne sprung up from the pages as an intriguing character and much more alluring than Luke. I am also looking forward to seeing how the character of James, Luke's brother develops as at this time I can't really say I like him. Six point five out of ten

A brill start to a wonderful quartet

Oh wow this book was wonderful. It is the start of a whole year, a year of scandal. The beginning was a little sad. You get to know Lady Virginia the last Viscountess Farenze through those who knew her as the book starts with her natural death. Luke Winterley, Viscount Farenze is her great-nephew and she was concerned about him due to his past. The last 10 years he rarely visited at Farenze Lodge Virginia's home. Her husband died many years before but theirs was a great love story. Luke is a character living with his past unable to move on. He has one daughter Eve who I hope we will see more of as she was a wonderful character from the start. For a young age she sees much. Virginia in her will has left certain conditions which were to be administered by Mrs Chloe Wheaton who is a housekeeper/companion. Chloe also has a daughter. The story is very revealing about Luke and Chloe and their relationship to each other. There are so fun parts and some intriguing parts. Luke receives a letter from Virginia but handed to him by Chloe who has also had a letter from Virginia. Present are Luke's half brother James and Luke's friend and Virginia's godson Tom, Marquis of Mantaigne. I have a feeling they both will also get letters. James' mother is very unkind especially to Luke. She introduced and made sure that Luke married Pamela who was Luke's wife. There is so much history there and it was well written so that you never felt it was overtaking the story. The story weaves many interesting events within a short time but it has a very happy ending. I think it was a wonderful start to a very interesting Year of Scandal. I am eagerly looking forward to the following stories.
