Coldly sold for marriage to the highest bidder, Lady Laura Taunton does not hold much faith in love and kindness. The war against Napoleon only serves to echo this feeling, until she meets intriguing Royal Naval surgeon Lieutenant Brittle – a man who’s the exact opposite of her cruel late husband.

Taking up his offer to help aid the battle’s injured, Laura starts to believe that she could have a place in the world…and a man who can show her true happiness.

An original setting and cast

Rating By Mia-maria,06/04/2012

It's a lovely story with good dialogue and a credible romance. I enjoyed how the story unfolded, and the pace with which it did. The language did make me pause in the beginning, but as I got used to it I loved that as well. Truly recommendable for those of us who love the Regency stories but also long for something beyond the usual.

A medical romance

Rating By Sarah,14/03/2012

This is the middle book of the trilogy; but it doesn't suffer from the "more of the same" syndrome some trilogies do; it's linked, yes (you find out how Nana and Oliver are getting on), but it stands on it's own two feet. In fact, I'd call this a medical romance set in the Napoleonic Wars; there's enough medical detail to add interest to the believably growing feelings of the two central characters. The gritty background is never glossed over but the story is definitely focused on the romance - and what a lovely romance it is too. A fine man, a wonderful woman, finding each other - wondefully satisfying! Highly recommended.
