Return of the Maverick

Dr Brad Perano’s return to Blenheim has the town’s rumour mill in overdrive! Nurse Erin Foley is more than intrigued – she’s sure there’s more to the rebellious tearaway-turned-distinguished-doctor than his charming smile. All Brad can offer is a no-commitments fling…can Erin give this maverick a reason to stay?

It Started with a Pregnancy

Dr Cooper Roberts has a new job and the chance to begin a new life. What’s most definitely not in his plans? Waking up with his new colleague, Melissa Bell… And having to hold his head up above the dropped jaws of his fellow docs as he escorts Missy to buy a pregnancy test!

Highs and lows

Return of the Maverick After the disappointment of Mrs McKay's second novel she is back on the right track with this compelling story in the delightful setting of a New Zealand country town among the vineyards. Written with humour and realistic medical content you find yourself rooting for the fascinating Brad and down-to-earth Erin who both have major disappointments in their past. An excellent read. Nine out of ten. It Started with a Pregnancy Personally I don't feel comfortable with a plot where the heroine falls pregnant as a result of a one-night stand and it is only by good fortune she has further contact with the father of the baby. I also thought it was too heavy with medical detail which was quite depressing. Cooper was a tantalisingly sexy doctor who deserved the best but Melissa came across as superficial and a bit self-centred. I couldn't really say I enjoyed this story. Four out of ten.

Scarlet Wilson took on an incredibly emotional subject and did it with such skill that her debut book was never about the tragedy that occurred in the hero's past but more about his healing from pain and the hope that he and the heroine had for their future. I turned the pages faster and faster to get to the end and see how these two were ever going to let their previous experiences stay in the past and move forward together with their baby. I also thought the ending of the book was particularly well done as the author wrapped up the threads introduced during the book and focussed on the couple and their relationship with the baby taking a "back seat" as it were which is exactly how a successful romance should be :-) My sister has diabetes and I will most definitely be recommending this book to her (as well as the rest of my friends!!) as this subject matter is skilfully and thoughtfully woven into the romance. Can't wait for the next one!!

It Started With a.... FANTASTIC READ!

You know how there are some books that take you a while to read as you loose interest in them, and then there are some books that keep you up half the night as you can't put it down until you see it through to the end? It started with a pregnancy was 100% the latter! From the moment I picked it up, I knew I wouldn't be going to sleep until I had read the whole thing - a big mistake at 11pm as I was up until 3:30am finishing it! :) I was so gripped by the characters and completely fell in love with Coop! The medical side was well explained and highly believable and kept me wanting more and it was great to be reminded that even the most experienced doctors are just like the rest of us when it comes to the fear of loosing a child. A really great read. I can't wait to read more of Scarlet's books! xSx PS: I haven't read Return of the Maverick as of yet, but I'm really looking forward to curling up with it and a mug of hot chocolate tonight!
