The shamed mistress…
Alexa Harcourt only ever spends one night, perhaps two, with Guy de Rochemont – never more. On her arrival at his Italian villa or his Monaco mansion, designer dresses and diamonds await Alexa – the woman who knows she can never be anything more than The de Rochemont Mistress.
Guy’s name is a byword for wealth and power – and now his duty is to wed. Virgin heiresses covet pride of place in his marital bed. But Alexa – the one woman Guy wants – is also the one woman whose reputation forbids him to take her as his wife…

Tissues at the ready!
As always from Julia James, this is a lovely story of Guy and Alexa, and as always from Julia James, she'll put your heart through the wringer before bringing the story to a wonderful conclusion!
I usually enjoy her stories as they tend to be somewhat different in approach, strong female characters and are very emotionally engaging. My only criticism would be the amount of carefully placed French phrases (italicised in case you don't realise that it's a foreign language!). M&B have been using this method for decades now - I think it's time to stop....
I really like JJ books but although I enjoyed this book I also found it a little boring in some parts.
forbidden or for bedding
i agree with most of the previous reviews..i love julia james books have given this book 4 stars instead of 5 there was very little dialogue between guy & alexa, too much of each of them thinking about their story and I was really disappointed with the cover...alexa is described as a typical english rose ie blonde hair down to her shoulders..cover which by the way is really badly shot is of a hard looking, dark haired woman...the new covers a lot of them have this problem. please get this right..
Another excellent novel from Mrs James which moves along at a fast pace and has a simmering tension which drew me in right from the start.
Guy was upfront and Alexa knew the score in their relationship right from the start so I did lose some respect for her actions when Guy announced his engagement.
Although it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story what a terrible cover!
8.5 out of 10.
compelling and emotionally satisfying
I agree that there's a lack of interaction/dialogue between Guy and Alexa, but what there is has a strong impact on them and me. It's testament to Julia James' writing that I found this really compelling, really believed the relationship was doomed, and found the ending to be emotionally satisfying.
