A Match Made In Maui

Written by Nina Singh

Chapter Fifteen

Suddenly it was all too much. The conversation between them had grown too serious, too heated. The feel of Jason’s leg against hers was doing things to her insides that Tessa didn’t want to acknowledge.

Not to mention, the uneaten shaved ice had melted and dripped all over her hands and wrists. She was a sticky, gooey mess.

Without allowing herself to think, she stood and began to peel her dress off.

Jason’s jaw dropped as he watched her. “Uh, what are you doing?”

Tessa couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled up in her throat. “I happen to have a bikini on underneath the dress. We were told it would be more convenient when we went in for our massages.”

“And so, I’m going for a swim,” she declared, dropping her white cotton sundress on the chair behind her. Without a second thought, she ran out toward the water. A refreshing dip into the splashing waves would do wonders to clear her mind and wash away the stickiness from the melted shaved ice.

She wasn’t surprised that Jason was fast on her heels. They splashed into the water at precisely the same moment. Tessa watched as he expertly dove into an oncoming wave as she jumped it. When he resurfaced, Jason’s smile took her breath away.

Dear heavens, he was something to look at. Shirtless and wet, his muscular chest sent a thrill of longing through her. The man could model for modern day sculptors given his physique and striking good looks. She ducked her head under the water to keep from staring at him. Or worse, from reaching out and touching that bronze-tanned skin the way she so desperately wanted to. When she resurfaced, he was nowhere to be found.

Suddenly, she felt a pair of strong arms under the back of her knees and right above her waist. In the next instant, she was being lifted out of the water.

She looked at him in question.

“Thought I saw a jellyfish,” he supplied. “Didn’t want you to get stung.”

“Oh.” It was the only response she could muster.

The impromptu jaunt into the water to cool off was clearly a mistake. Far from feeling any kind of cooling, the sensation of being carried in Jason’s arms while neither of them were fully clothed had only served to send a wave of heat through her very core.

In fact, she was burning with desire.
