Trick and Treat

Chapter Twenty Four

He did? Lizzie blinked, stunned. How on earth would he like this mousy look better than the sexy-vixen look?

“Look, my ex-girlfriend was the walking vixen. Taught aerobic lap-dancing lessons, slept in her fake eyelashes—the whole thing.” Hunter sighed. “But she cheated on me, brought me nothing but endless drama and, well, I’m looking for a real woman.” He studied her, his dark eyes serious. “I think, right now, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life.”

That was it for Lizzie.

“Want to come in for a drink?”

He nodded, and she grabbed him by the hand and pulled him inside her apartment. Then she suddenly remembered that she had no drinks, as she’d finished her last bottle of wine days before and hadn’t been shopping yet.

“Actually, I don’t have anything to drink. Except water.” Would he bolt now, she wondered?

“Well, I’ll be honest with you—I don’t really want a drink.”

“You don’t?” Did that mean he was going to leave? Panic rose in her throat. Then he took a step closer.

“I don’t want a drink,” he said, now nearly toe-to-toe with her. “I want you.”
