Trick and Treat

Written by Cara Lockwood

Chapter Nineteen

Hunter peeled Tamara’s hands off him. “No,” he said, shaking his head. “I don’t want this.”

Tamara’s face registered shock. Then again Hunter had never told the woman no before. “You can’t be serious.”

Oh, but he was. All he could think of was that Material Girl and her bright green eyes. Intelligent, sassy and all sex. Hunter was already to the door, with Tamara trailing after him. “If you turn me down, then you can forget me forever,” Tamara whined.

Hunter shook his head. Already done. “Just don’t call me again, okay? I warned you about Vin. Stay away from him. ”

She thrust a hand on one hip. “You really don’t love me anymore, do you?”

“I’ve definitely lost that loving feeling,” Hunter said and sailed straight out the front door.

“You look ridiculous in that costume!” she called after him, apparently oblivious to the fact it was his actual Naval-pilot suit. He shook his head and laughed. Leaving Tamara for good was the best decision he’d ever made. Now he was going to find that Material Girl.

That is, if it wasn’t too late. She’d scurried out of that Ryde quickly once she’d seen the name Tamara on his phone. He hoped he hadn’t scared her off.

His phone pinged, announcing a new Facebook message, but as he dug it out of his pocket, the screen went black.

“Damn battery,” he muttered as he made his way out to the street. He had no idea who’d messaged him. And now he couldn’t call a Ryde, either. He glanced along the busy sidewalks, jammed with adults who’d had too much to drink wearing Halloween costumes.

He shook his head. He’d have to just flag a cab the old-fashioned way.
