Trick and Treat

Written by Cara Lockwood

Chapter Thirteen

His ex had rotten timing. I need you. Help! I’m in trouble.

With Tamara, that could mean anything from she’s out of cash at a bar to… something far more serious. Hunter knew she’d been running with a bad crowd lately. A bad crowd that included Vin Baker. He’d tried to warn her, but had she listened? No.

It’s Vin.

Of course it was.

He won’t let me leave. I’m scared.

That didn’t sound good.

“Who’s that?” she asked.

“It’s…my ex.” He let out a long sigh. His ex who was never interested in him unless she was drunk or in trouble. She cheated on you with your once-friend, he reminded himself. Yet he still didn’t like the idea of a girl in trouble. Any girl.

“Oh.” Material Girl sounded a bit uncertain as the Lincoln rolled to a stop.

“Here you are,” Paul said, glancing at the woman in the rearview. “This is your address, right?”

Hunter blinked and realized that Paul had pulled to the curb. The ride was over and Material Girl was getting out of the car. She was about to walk out of his life, and he didn’t even know her name. He could not let this happen.
