Trick and Treat

Written by Cara Lockwood

Chapter Eight

Lizzie just agreed to kiss the hottest man she’d ever met. I’m taking this whole Material Girl thing too far, she thought, glancing anxiously at the driver in the front seat. Would Paul watch? Then she glanced at the man’s dark, playful eyes and thought, Who cares if he does?

Lizzie was flirting with danger and she liked it. Besides, wasn’t this what Halloween was for? Taking risks, putting herself out there… Kissing amazingly hot men who probably wouldn’t give her the time of day if she was wearing her normal tortoiseshell glasses and prim librarian’s button-up oxford?

He reached up and touched her cheek, gently, and the caress made her shiver. He was going to take his time, she realized, and she liked that. His lips met hers gently at first, gentlemanly. They were firm and in control as he deepened the kiss a little, putting his hand on the small of her back and leading her closer. Not that she needed to be told to do that, as she pressed her leg into his, deepening the connection. He tasted like the cinnamon gum he’d been chewing: sweet and spicy. His lips, soft but in control, pressed against hers, opening just a little. How she wanted to taste him more. How she wanted… more. He pulled away first, and when her eyes fluttered open, she found herself staring into his big brown eyes, losing herself there for a minute. Her heart thudded hard in her chest. It was a teasing kind of kiss, one that promised more.

“Not bad, flyboy,” she murmured, her voice low. She realized her heart was thudding in her chest. He’d gotten her blood pumping. God, she missed this feeling. Missed a man’s strong touch. Missed the intimacy of lips on lips. But that little kiss had sent a white hot bolt of need through her body. Now she itched for more.
