The Wedding Secret

Written by Kianna Alexander

Chapter Twenty

Pushing a cart through the baby superstore, Renata was dazzled by her surroundings. Everywhere she looked, she saw precious, tiny things she wanted for the baby. Looking around at the other mothers populating the place, and hearing their squeals of delight, she imagined they felt similarly.

Amir walked alongside her, glancing around in amazement. “I never knew they made this much stuff for babies. Things sure have changed since we were coming up.”

“Don’t get overwhelmed, hon. We’re off to a good start.” Their cart already contained an infant car seat, the first thing they’d need to bring the baby home from the hospital. “If we don’t get anything else today, we’re fine.”

“Seeing the look in your eyes tells me we’re definitely buying something else, Renata.”

She giggled, and moments later, her eyes fell on the layette section. “Oh, honey. Let’s look at the little baby clothes.”

He chuckled, following her over there. “See what I mean?”

”Let’s not get everything pink just because it’s a girl. Let’s get some yellow and green, too.”

“I can’t wait to meet my little princess.” Picking up a white onesie with green embroidery reading I Love My Daddy, Amir tossed it in the cart. “We gotta get that one.”

She smiled, shaking her head at him. “Find one that says I Love Mommyand we’re square.”

He did find one, embroidered in yellow, and added it to the cart.

They continued to walk through the store, looking at clothes, toys and more. There was so much to consider. Some things, like a crib and bedroom furniture, were necessities. Others, like wipes warmers and video baby monitors, were up for debate. Renata found it hard not to buy everything she saw, but wanted to pace herself. She was only a little over three months along, so there would be plenty of time for shopping.

“Amir, we can go. I’m tired, and we still have to figure out what we need, and what we don’t.”

“You’re right.” He steered the cart toward the checkout lane.

By the time they left the store with the two outfits and the car seat, Renata was exhausted. Amir, ever the gentleman, lifted her into the passenger seat of his truck and adjusted her seat. Once she was settled in, he climbed in on the driver’s side.

Looking at his handsome face, she said, “I love the way you take care of me, Amir.”

He kissed her hand. “It’s the least I can do. You’re carrying our child, and doing it beautifully.”

She felt the tears welling in her eyes. It took so little to get her crying these days. “I love you, Amir.”

Touching her cheek, he leaned in to kiss her lips. “Not half as much as I love you, Renata.”
