About M.

The road to becoming published has been quite an adventure for me. In 1998 I decided to self-publish my first title Lip Service after several traditional publishers turned it down. I ran into the same problem again and again where editors loved it, but couldn’t decide how to position or market the book as it didn’t fit into a specific genre.

I was frustrated, but curious – and convinced that there was a readership for my work, so I decided to set up a website where readers could download my book for $9.95 and I went about seriously marketing the novel on the Internet.

After selling over 2,500 copies (in both electronic and trade paper format) Lip Service became the first e-book and the first self-published novel chosen by the Literary Guild/Doubleday Book Club as well as being the first e-book to go on to be published by a mainstream New York publishing house.

I have since written twelve more novels, and co-authored How to Publish and Promote Online with Angela Adair Hoy and Buzz Your Book with Doug Clegg.

I currently live in Connecticut with my partner Doug Scofield, a composer, and our very spoiled dog, Winka.
