I started my writing career at the age of sixteen – when I finished my first novel on my mother's old portable typewriter, typing away late at night and early in the morning before school.
Although that first novel was nothing short of literary mud, with each successive piece of work I improved my writing and eventually reached that coveted published status. I started in journalism (after proclaiming during college I'd never write news), I've worked for both daily and weekly newspapers, covering multiple beats including education, health and crime, but I always dreamed of writing novels and someday saying goodbye to my non-fiction roots.
I was born and raised in scenic Mariposa, California, so I know a thing or two about small towns and I prefer the quiet, rural atmosphere to the hustle and bustle of a busy city any day – but my husband and I make our home in Oakdale, which acts as a compromise between the two worlds. John and I met and fell in love while filming a college production. He was the camera operator and I was the lead actress. He often jokes that he fell in love with me through the lens of a camera. A year later we were married and have been together ever since.
As well as writing, reading and drinking hot chocolate by the windowsill when it rains, I enjoy photography and am the resident photographer for every family event, including weddings and new babies. The photographs gracing the walls of our home are comprised almost entirely of shots I've captured, whether on the job or just playing around with the camera. I divide my time between kid functions, home stuff and deadlines.
