I had no idea when I opened that first Walter Farley book in third grade it would be a defining moment in my life. After devouring every Black Stallion and Island Stallion book written, I decided I wanted my own horse. It took a few years, but eventually that dream was realised. I went on to embrace the country lifestyle, owning horses – and an assortment of other animals – for most of my life. I never anticipated what an effect it would have on my writing.
Like a lot of authors, I began writing in school, though I didn't get serious about it until my own children were in school. After lots of hits and misses, I began writing contemporary westerns for Harlequin American, and I couldn't be happier. Who knew reading all those horse books would eventually pay off?
These days, I divide my time between the corporate business world and writing. Guess I'm one of those left brain/right brain people. When time allows, I head to my cabin in the mountains with friends or family, always taking my laptop on the chance inspiration strikes. It usually does….
