I got my BA in English Literature from the University of Tennessee, hoping that some day I'd put that degree to use. Instead, I became an actress out in Hollywood (go figure!). For ten or so years, I worked mostly as a commercial actress while my husband and I raised our two children. Something about all of those acting classes and the character/scene work I was doing led me to consider writing a novel. It was a crazy idea, but in between auditions, I put those acting chops to work, creating emotional lives for the cast of characters in my first historical novel. After a lot of hard work, I miraculously sold that first book and I haven't looked back since.
I found my niche writing both historical and contemporary novels and have now been seeing my stories published for over twenty years.
Writing books is my first love, but that led me, inevitably, to the other passions in my life. Sometime in the late 90's, I began teaching, mentoring and editing other writers. I taught novel writing at UCLA Extension Writer's Program for many years, beginning in the late 1990's and I still teach privately today. I have mentored many new writers into the world of publishing, where they've found wonderful success. I have been a speaker at numerous conferences and writing groups, talking about writing technique, self-editing and craft.
Not content to rest on my book writing laurels, my writing journey took a detour for a few years as I got a masters degree in Writing from Goddard College, in Vermont. Then I went on to explore the world of screenwriting where I wrote and optioned several screenplays to Hollywood.
Today, I live in Southern California with my husband, where I'm still writing, teaching and helping other writers realise their dreams.
