Writing romance fiction is a dream come true for me, after so many years of avid reading. I got my fill of tragedies and unhappy endings by majoring in opera/vocal performance and Spanish literature. During all those years of singing about throwing myself into various rivers (Thanks, Puccini!) and reading about political prisons and horrible civil wars, I devoured romances whenever I could.
My first attempt at romance fiction was a gothic-type short contemporary where the teenage heroine actually ran into the dark and stormy night to escape her abusive father. Must have been all those Victoria Holt novels I read growing up.
I took off several years from writing fiction and then one day, after winning a bookstore gift certificate, I took it as a sign and promptly ordered several how-to books on writing romance novels which I read until they were dog-eared. My husband insisted I join Romance Writers of America, not even blanching when I showed him how much first-time dues cost.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy spending time with my family here in the Chicago suburbs and waiting for the crazy weather to clear enough so we can go hiking. I fight the tough clay soil on behalf of my garden and regularly incur large overdue book fines at several area libraries because I can never remember which book was due to which library. I love Agatha Christie books and PBS Mystery specials and Jane Austen books and their BBC versions. I’ve been an avid crocheter since I was young and recently took my first knitting lesson. I’m starting with couch pillows so I don’t have to make anything that fits.
Thanks for stopping in to find out about me. I’d love to hear from you, so I invite you to take a moment to visit my website. Happy reading!
