I was born in Somerset, an English county which is as lovely as it sounds. I’ve been writing all my life, and my first book was created when I was about three years old. My aunt stitched some sheets of writing paper together with embroidery silk, then I drew on the cover and wrote one word on each page. From that moment I was hooked on capturing words.
I met my husband on a blind date. We were both emerging from unhappy love affairs, but luckily we took one look at each other that night and all the cliches sprang to life – the pounding hearts, dry mouths and sizzling chemistry. It’s no wonder romantic novels are so popular. Every time I read or write about instant attraction, I’m right back there on that dark winter night when I thought I’d never be happy again. Then the man of my dreams walked in, and I found my own happy-ever-after.
We married within months, and moved across the Severn into the neighbouring county of Gloucestershire. Writing about country life for national magazines and illustrating articles with my photographs was much more satisfying than the office work I’d done in town. It made me wonder if I could write full-length fiction. I’ve always been interested in history, and my first romance, Knight’s Pawn, was published by Harlequin Mills and Boon under the pen name Polly Forrester. Five more historical novels followed, which I’m in the process of updating and re-releasing. During a career break to raise my family I wrote award-winning short stories. Then in 2007 my first Mills & Boon Modern Romance, The Italian Billionaire’s Virgin, was published. Since then, my books have appeared in lists of best sellers all over the world.
As well as romantic conflict, I like to include glimpses of the countryside in all its moods as I write. Reading romance is my idea of luxury – it’s the chance to escape from the pressures of everyday life.
