About Sherryl

After graduating with a degree in journalism from Ohio State University and working in the newspaper business for many years, the first time I sat down to write a novel, I struggled with the lack of quotes and pages of facts I was so used to having. And then, thanks to a very perceptive friend, I realised I got to use my imagination to make it all up!

Since then, for more than 100 women's fiction, romance and mystery novels, I’ve been making up all sorts of things – characters, storylines, entire communities. The best part for me is that my heroes do exactly what I tell them to do, unlike any of the men I’ve ever known.

Even though I could allow my imagination free rein, I still like to write novels that are grounded in reality. I want my characters and situations to resonate with my readers. Nothing pleases me more than to hear from a reader who says they've been through the same thing and found that the whole story rang true for them. Better yet, that they not only survived, but thrived – much like the heroines in my stories.

When I’m not writing or reading, I love to garden, though I’m not at my best on a riding lawn mower. I also love tennis, theatre, and ballet, even though my top spin has long since vanished, I’ve never set foot on a stage, and I’m way too uncoordinated to dance. I also love baseball – anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in Bull Durham can understand why!
