I prepared myself for a career in writing by doing all the usual things. I’ve travelled from Australia to Istanbul, earned degrees in behavioural science and in journalism, completed programs in photography and organisational management – and worked as a photographer, a freelance writer, a caseworker, an investigator, and a management consultant.
An obvious segue? Well, sure! I believe it's all been a training ground for what I really wanted to do – write fiction. In order to find time to write, I would get up at 4:30 a.m. each day to fit some in before work, then during my lunch break I'd edit and revise. My travels are well documented through dozens of photos, journals, and tapes – because I’ve always known that, someday, I'd use the information in my books.
My passions (besides my husband, four sons, one daughter-in-law, one almost daughter-in-law, two totally awesome grandchildren, and two stepchildren and their spouses) still include travel and photography. I belong to several writers' groups, and have left all my earlier careers to write full-time from my home in Gilbert, Arizona.
I still can't believe that I actually get paid to do what I love to do. How great is that?
