About Jessica

I was born in the elegant Warwickshire town of Royal Leamington Spa. I was a delicate child and missed a lot of school. In fact, I left school aged 14, when I was diagnosed with tuberculosis. I started work as a junior clerk at 16.

I have two super brothers, Colin and George, and a lovely sister, Elizabeth – we're all very close. My husband have no children of our own, but we have plenty of nephews and nieces to make up for the fact.

Peter and I married in 1967 and moved from my hometown to the lovely area where we now live. Our house is built into the side of a hill, and has beautiful views over more hills and valleys. Both me and Peter are more than a little dog-oriented, and our current dog is a Staffordshire bull terrier named Florence, who is gorgeous. She is 40 pounds of pure dynamite that loves to hurl her boisterous self at everyone she meets. She's certainly great fun!

Peter was wonderfully patient as I embarked on my writing career, giving me every support as I did what I consider my five-year apprenticeship (the rejection years) while learning how to write.
I never got to grips with using a typewriter. I've always found that I'm perfectly happy to write in long hand, and I have a dozen or so fountain pens filled and ready to go at the start of any one session.

To gain authentic background for my books I’ve travelled and researched in Hong Kong, China, Mexico, Japan, Peru, Russia, Egypt, Chile and Greece.
