Writing for Mills & Boon

I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was supposed to be studying for my final high school exam. I was 17, and decided right then and there I would continue reading romance novels and would settle for no less than a tall dark handsome hero as my future husband. Well, I’m not only still reading romance but writing it as well! And the tall dark handsome hero, you ask? I fell in love with him on our second date and were secretly engaged within six weeks.
We moved to Scotland so he could work and study for his M.D. in surgery, and two sons later, arrived in Hobart, Tasmania – the jewel in the Australian crown. Once our boys were safely at school, I went back to university and upgraded my teaching qualifications to a bachelor's and then a master’s degree. As part of my final assessment I conducted a tutorial in literary theory concentrating on the romance genre. I had the tutorial room decked out with hearts and champagne and roses and was standing at the front of the room reading a paragraph from the novel of a prominent Harlequin Mills & Boon author when the door suddenly burst open. The husband that I thought was safely tucked away in an operating theatre doing what surgeons are supposed to do was actually standing there dressed in a tuxedo, his dark brown compelling gaze centred on my startled blue one. He strode purposefully across the room, hauled me into his arms and kissed me deeply and passionately before setting me back down and leaving without a single word. The lecturer gave me a High Distinction and my fellow students gave me jealous glares! You can see by now my pilgrimage into romance writing was more or less set!
As well as writing full-time, I enjoy walking with my dogs and swimming. I learned to swim as an adult and went on to set state records in masters swimming as well as national top ten rankings, so for anyone out there who thinks they can't do something – you can! My motto is ‘Don't say I can't; say I CAN TRY.’
I am very passionate about the needs of children and I am an official ambassador for The Australian Childhood Foundation.
I love the pace and passion of the Harlequin Mills & Boon Modern series. The handsome heroes and spirited and feisty heroines and the deep emotion and exotic locations are the things I love best as a reader and I feel very privileged to be writing them so others can experience the same enjoyment that I always have.
