I was born and grew up in Hertfordshire, the only member of my family not to be born within the sound of Bow Bells – so instead of growing up a cockney, I grew up a new town girl! English was my favourite subject at school and I always had a desire to write, but didn’t really try until I was in my twenties. All my first attempts were lamentable and I didn’t really get going again until some years later when I joined a creative writing class. My tutor advised me to start with short stories, as they’re shorter than novels (!), and that was great advice because the satisfaction of starting and finishing a project was immense! I was lucky enough to start to sell some of my stories to the women’s magazines and that’s when things really started to look up. Now my stories have been published all around the world.
That was what gave me the confidence to try my hand at novel writing and decide to start entering competitions. I was a finalist in The Novelicious Undiscovered competition with an early version of Desperately Seeking Heaven and I was also a top twenty finalist in the 2011 Mills and Boon New Voices Competition.
Finally seeing my novel in print (or rather e-reader) really is my dream come true.
