I once lived a vagabond life, taking up residences in Arizona, Ohio, Northern Virginia, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Germany, Texas, Georgia and Alabama, before settling in Colorado where I convinced my husband (finally) there will be no more moving! After my son and daughter grew up and moved away, we found ourselves struck by empty nest syndrome and my and I husband adopted three teenage girls. Now that the girls are adults too, our empty nest looks great, and I am back to writing full-time. Okay, maybe not fully full-time. I’m also a bead artist and jewellery maker. I love auctions and estate sales, and am always on the lookout to add to my collection of horse figurines and art, and vintage rhinestone butterflies.
I’ve written for Harlequin Intrigue since 1992, and I also write short stories, essays and articles. Suspense and horror novels are my favourites, and I especially like those that have lots of kissing. I watch way too much television and justify it by telling everyone that my favourite crime, medical and paranormal documentaries are educational and for research purposes. My oldest daughter was kind enough to get a masters degree in forensic science, so she answers to my questions about blood spatter and fingerprints and ballistics are only a phone call away.
I find that inspiration for my stories comes from everywhere. I’m a compulsive people watcher and unrepentant eavesdropper, always on the lookout for interesting bits of dialogue and characters. Once a week me and my writing buddy meet for breakfast, talk about writing, books and politics, and are always hopeful that the cute guys from the fire department academy will be having breakfast there, too. The rest of the time I can be found in my office/studio where I write, make beads and keep a wary eye on the cats who I'm certain are conspiring to murder me for the insurance money.
