I grew up in northern Virginia, but moved to California to attend the University of California at Berkeley. I decided to stay there after I graduated and made my home in the San Francisco Bay area while I worked as a flight attendant for an international airline.
When my flying days eventually ended, I began working in the computer industry and worked my way up to Vice President in a software development firm. In my ‘spare time’, I decided to give in to a long cherished desire to try my hand at writing.
One of the first things I discovered was that writing was one thing, but getting a book written was much more difficult. I persevered until I made that first sale, I then sold another, and then another… I have now published over eighty novels and novellas.
After that first sale, a new dream arose within me – to write for a living and leave the hectic pace of the San Francisco Bay behind. A few years later, I quit my day job to move to the Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
At last count, over sixteen million copies of my books have sold in fifty different countries in twenty one different languages. For books with international settings, I refer to my flight attendant's journal for descriptions and memories. But the American West is my favourite locale. I have written numerous books with cowboys as heroes, and I plan for even more follow.
Although I’m dedicated to a strict work regimen to meet deadlines, I still find time to pursue my hobby of working on my family history and I head the county's genealogy society. I also serve on the Amador County Cemetery Board, the local chapter of the NSDAR and volunteer one day a week at the local Animal Shelter.
I am a member of Romance Writers of America; Novelists, Inc.; and the NSDAR – which has nothing to do with writing, but does tie in with my love for genealogy!
