I live in Texas and am married to my high-school sweetheart, whom I attracted by following the instructions in How to Get a Teen-Age Boy, and What to Do with Him When You Get Him by Ellen Peck. She suggested showing an interest in his hobby, which was ham radio. He spent weeks teaching me Morse code and basic electronics. Then he made me a deal – he'd take me to the senior prom if I could pass the test and get licensed. Talk about motivation! I passed the test and the license arrived in the mail the same day as the prom.
I found myself addicted to romance novels in college when my roommate would go home for weekends and return with boxes of them. I read them all – yet still managed to graduate and become a music teacher. And then my first son was born. I might still be teaching strings and class piano except I had nine babysitters quit in seven months. Taking pity on what was left of the childcare industry in my town, I gave up teaching with the idea that I'd write during my son's naptime. It was either that or housework. After several years and another son, I sold my first book to Harlequin Romance. Since then, I've published over forty five books with Harlequin and they've been translated into twenty five languages.
Readers tell me my stories make them laugh and I'm proud to have become a USA Today bestseller, a three-time RWA RITA® award finalist, and the recipient of several awards from RT Book Reviews.
When I'm not writing, I collect vintage costume jewellery, enjoy watching fireworks, and accidentally kill plants. And I still avoid housework, although I think up my best plots while vacuuming.
