I never had much time to devote to writing. Working full time as vice principal of a comprehensive sixth form college whilst running a home and taking care of my family meant that it was only ever something I would dabble with during pockets of spare time. My first attempt at a novel – a modern 'woman in danger' sort of affair, was in vague progress for about twenty years. When I took up writing again after my retirement, I found the heroine to be a complete wimp and the hero a pompous bore! On the whole it seemed better to leave them to their fate.
Having always had a love for the Georgian era, I decided to try my hand at writing a Historical romance, which went on to be my first novel published with Mills & Boon. I’d never really considered trying to have anything published before and sent my manuscript in on a whim – so I was absolutely stunned when I received ‘The Call’ to say it had been accepted! Several books later and I still surprised – though delighted – to think of myself as a professional writer.
These days I live in the west country with my husband Simon and our rescue animals. We enjoy dividing our spare time between visiting with our daughter, Catherine, who lives in Maidenhead, and the small house that we own in Normandy.
The Big Country and Pretty Woman. Books I love: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Merlin Trilogy by Mary Stewart, Possession by A S Byatt, The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer and The Nine Tailors by Dorothy Sayers
