There was an interesting plot to this novel but for a long while it seemed to jump all over the place which made me take a long while to understand exactly what was going on and really get in to the book although it improved greatly in the second half. This has intrigue, betrayal, estranged lovers and realistic and likable characters and I felt that I should really like it yet somehow I felt unsettled and strangely disappointed even at the end. Six point five out of ten

Confusing

Rating By Julia, 25 Jun 2014

I was confused with this book. There was a lot of backward and forwarding through the history of the 2 main characters. Without more guidence like a date or timeline added it was hard to tell if you are in the future or the past. It is a good story but the author would have been better off giving us the full details of the events in France first and then forward to the present and dealt with that part after. I found jumping around lost the flow of the book. The characters of Nathaniel and Cassandra were complex and interesting but the story made things disjointed and somehow the characters get a little lost. The other storylines also were interesting but I found the beginning too slow and the ending too fast. The ending to me also seemed a little incomplete.
