A duty to the past…
After fifteen years in self-imposed exile, haunted rebel prince Xander Drakos must walk back through the palace gates and assume the role he once abandoned.
Only one woman can restore his good name – the woman he left behind. But when Xander finds Layna Xenakos he’s horrified to see the effects of the turmoil he left behind written in the scars across her body.
But her scars have given her strength, and Layna refuses to bow to his royal command. Now Xander must use his practised charm to convince her to become his bride, securing his legitimate place on the throne.

This is one of my favourites of the month so far. Loved Xander....swoon!
Wow, just wow.. I loved this book! It was sweet, romantic, and beautiful all in one. Xander was so amazing, especially at the end.
I loved this so much...Maisey Yates has written a fabulous emotional story which does not fail to tug your heart strings..<3
Unlike the Modern Romance genre!
Be prepared that the heroine is not picture perfect! It detracts from what the romance in this Modern genre.. The storyline, the repartee the characterization all fit in. However these romances take you into a world of fantasy and sometimes imperfections do detract one from the enjoyment of the story.
Par for the course
As with most of this month's Moderns I found the pace of this story very slow.
It was brave of Ms Yates to have a disfigured heroine and this was a big plus in the book's favour. I enjoyed that Layna was strong-willed and refused to kowtow to Xander.
I'm afraid Xander was not my type of person at all. They say reformed rakes make the best husbands but I personally can't brush fifteen years of womanising and drinking under the carpet, no matter what the reason (and I personally didn't think it was justified).
A par for the course M&B.
