About Melissa

I have always been a fan of fairy tales and happily-ever-afters, but I’d never read a category romance until my senior year of high school, when my English teacher had our class study genre fiction. Needless to say, I owe Mrs. Penny Cooper a debt of gratitude.

After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in mechanical engineering, I worked analysing jet engine performance – a world away from romance! But I was a voracious reader. My love for the genre grew until one day I decided to write a romance of my own. I quickly learned that was far easier said than done, but I was determined not to give up. Writing soon became a passion. With lots of prodding and support from my husband, I decided to follow my dream and write full time.

It turned out to be a good decision and my first full-time effort was also my first sale to Harlequin!

I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my husband, three children, two Norwegian Elkhounds and more cats than I care to admit. Yes, I'm a crazy cat lady. What can I say? The cats keep me company while I write. And sleep. And pretty much anything else I do in the house!

With three active kids I'm not home much, so I've learned to write anywhere. That means my minivan, the swimming pool, the soccer pitch, ringside at a dog show or the hip hop studio. A couple of my stories have been inspired by my 'office' locations!

I spend my free time hanging out with my family, reading and making care packages for our troops overseas. My favourite hobbies are snow skiing, and rock climbing – which I started doing as research for a series of books I wrote that had a focus on mountain rescuers.
