As a child I was absolutely horse crazy, so my first love was pony books (particularly Ruby Ferguson and Patricia Leitch) but it didn’t take me long to branch out in romance. The first one I remember from my teens was California Girl, by Janet Quin-Harkin, which I bought at a second hand bookshop. I was hooked, and soon I was reading everything romance, and scouring my local library for the heart stickers on the spine. It took me a long (long!) time to admit to my love affair with the genre, to the point where I’d even hide my books! It wasn’t until my early twenties that I got over all of that, and learnt to display my romance novels with pride. Honestly, what is better than a guaranteed happy ever after?
I’d been writing for about five years before my work became published and I am so excited to be writing for Harlequin Mills & Boon. The advice I would give to any aspiring writers is to join your local writers’ organisation. Here in Australia, I’m a part of the Romance Writers of Australia and what I learnt through contests and conferences transformed the way I write and my understanding of the publishing industry.
I live in Perth with my own real life hero, two gorgeous dogs and the world’s smartest cat. By day, I work in IT, and by night I consider myself incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to share my own characters’ happy ever afters with my readers.
