I was born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, but moved to the West Coast of Florida when I was eight years old and so I’ve always considered it home. I loved growing up in our small beach community with my five brothers and sisters and had a happy childhood, playing clarinet in the school band, earning my varsity letter on the tennis team and acting as editor of my high school newspaper.
Today I live with my husband, Bill, and our two cairn terriers, Dandi and MacArthur, on Florida's West Coast, just a few miles from the town where I grew up. My husband is the executive director of the National Armed Services and Law Enforcement Museum and our favourite pastime is planning the summer home we hope to build on eight wooded acres of a mountain, overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western North Carolina.
