About Catherine

I was born in a village on the Welsh-English border, where the public library featured largely in my life. My mother, who looked upon literature as a basic necessity of life, fervently encouraged my passion for reading; little knowing it would one day motivate me into writing my first novel.

At eighteen, I met my husband, who swept me off to Brazil after we were married – where he worked as Chief Engineer of a large gold-mining operation in the mountains of Minas Gerais, a setting which later provided an inspired background for several of my early novels.

We passed nine happy years there, before the question of our small son's education decided our return to Britain. It wasn't long afterward that our daughter was born, and for a time I lived a fulfilled life as a wife and mother who always made time to read, especially in the bath! When my husband's job took him abroad again, to Portugal, West Africa, and various countries of the Middle East, I stayed home with the family, and spent a lot of lonely evenings in between the joyous reunions when my husband came home on leave.

‘Instead of reading other people's novels all the time,’ he suggested one day, ‘why not have a shot at writing one yourself?’ …so I did!

Before I took the plunge, I enrolled on a creative writing course and was so encouraged by the other students' enthusiasm for my contributions I decided to try my hand at a romance. I read countless Mills & Boon novels first as a research project before writing one myself. My first novel, Reluctant Paragon, which Romantic Times voted best of its genre for that year, was accepted, along with all seventy seven written since, one of which, The Legend of the Ancient Greek, made the best seller list of USA Today.

I am now widowed and live in the Welsh Marches, and since my soul-mate is no longer with me I take much solace in my writing. But I’m lucky enough to share my home with my single-again son and his bossy Jack Russell terrier, with my daughter and two gorgeous granddaughters living not too far away in Hereford.
