I suppose country towns in Australia, although the beach also features quite strongly. Country towns? They provide a microcosm in which to examine the vagaries of human nature. And what’s more romantic than a beach silvered by moonlight.

Describe the ultimate romantic meal.
Anything I don’t have to cook or clean up afterwards! As far as food goes, fish and chips in the park or by the beach with a bottle of wine, a moon and the right man can be as romantic as the most decadent chocolate dessert.
What is your all-time favourite romantic movie?
Would that I could remember it’s name! It had Steve McQueen and Natalie Woods in it, and was a hidden baby story. Love with a Proper Stranger? Something like that.
What is the most romantic gesture or gift you have received?
An opal pendant with a stone cut and polished by my husband.
Where is the most romantic place you’ve ever travelled?
India. It had a special magic for me even before I met my husband on a second trip to the sub-continent. Consequently, it seemed natural to set my first romance novel there.

Besides writing, what other talent would you most like to have?
I’d love to be able to sing can’t, of course. I’m tone deaf.
Who is someone you admire and why?
William Deane, current Governor General of Australia who has been a tremendous force for good in our country from a position that was once little more than decorative.
Do you have a good luck charm or superstition?
Sitting on top of my computer is a small, stuffed version of a hairy-nosed wombat. I wouldn’t say I couldn’t write without him there, but I’m happy to have him for company.
Share one of your favourite indulgences with us.
Reading in bed. I do it every evening, but to spend a whole day there or better still a week-end. In fact, it’s been too long since I’ve done it. Maybe next week-end
What quality do you most admire in a man?
Honesty and a sense of humour. In order to love you have to be able to trust, hence the need for honesty and to keep your love alive, it’s important to be able to laugh together.
What is the one thing you've always wanted to do, but never had the courage to try?
Lack of money rather than courage seems to stop me doing most of the things I’d like to do trekking to Base Camp Everest, driving down the length of South America give me a couple of million dollars and courage wouldn’t come into it.
