His heart is black and he trusts no one Thunderclaps, lightning strikes and her imposing new mansion looming high – but Miss Marchant is not one to be afraid. Not wilful, beautiful Sydony Marchant. If the house doesn’t shock her, the arrival of Viscount Hawthorne does! No longer the boy she once kissed – Bartholomew’s now a man with a ruthless glint in his eye. He’s here to uncover a truth and ruin Sydony. But they are soon entangled in secrets darker than they know. And, as the tension crackles between them, the memory of their innocent kiss is no longer enough…
Different but worthwhile read.

Rating"This is the first novel by this author that I have read and it took me a little while to get used to the style of writing.
Set in a large isolated castle with a tantalising hero and heroine in Bartholomew and Sydony the mystery kept me guessing to the end.
I was intrigued by Sydony's brother Kit - he was immature and superficial (deliberately so!) to such an extent that I wasn't sure what his role would eventually turn out to be.
I will look forward to further novels by Mrs Simmons.
8.5 out of 10."
